An idea-language for hard decisions

Sharp thinking, made to last.

Most strategy work produces slides. We produce thinking — the kind that survives contact with a board, a budget cycle, and a bad quarter. IconMinds runs short, intense engagements for people who already work hard and need help thinking clearly under pressure, not another framework to laminate.

What we do

Three ways in.

Each one is a narrow door, on purpose. We'd rather do one thing precisely than everything approximately.

Strategy sprints

A strategy sprint is five days, one room, and one decision that has been avoided for too long. We arrive with the spine of a framework, not a template, and build the actual argument with you — sourced, stress-tested, specific enough to act on Monday. It ends with a one-page position, not a deck you'll rewrite before you present it.

01Best for a single, board-level decision — not a full annual plan.

Leadership intensives

New executives inherit other people's decisions before they've made any of their own. Our intensives compress the first ninety days of judgment-building into a few working sessions — how to read a room, when to overrule a plan, how to disagree without stalling a team. You leave with a decision-making habit, not a leadership philosophy poster.

02Built for a first ninety days, not a career-long program.

Decision frameworks

Most frameworks are borrowed language for decisions nobody actually owns. We build a small, specific framework for your team's real recurring decision — pricing calls, hiring bars, build-vs-buy — and teach the team to run it without us. It works because it fits one decision, not every decision.

03Frameworks are handed over; we don't stay to run them.

The method

Four movements.

Every engagement moves through the same four beats, in the same order, whether it takes an afternoon or a month.

  1. Frame the real question

Most “strategic questions” are symptoms wearing a costume. Movement one is diagnostic: we take the question you walked in with and either confirm it or replace it with the one actually costing you money and time.

  2. Stress the thinking

Every promising answer gets argued against by someone in the room whose job is to find where it breaks — the market assumption, the org assumption, the money assumption. An answer that survives this movement is one you can defend later, not just believe now.

  3. Decide in daylight

The decision gets made in the room, out loud, with the trade-offs written down — not in a follow-up email three weeks later. A decision the whole team watched get made is most of what makes it stick.

  4. Make it stick

A decision without an owner and a first move is a well-written opinion. Movement four assigns both before anyone leaves the room, plus the one signal that will tell you in ninety days whether it was right.

Beliefs

What we hold to.

  • Slides are not thinking. They're what thinking looks like after someone has laminated it.

  • Every strategy should fit on a page. If it needs a folder, it isn't a strategy yet.

  • Consensus is not alignment. Alignment survives disagreement — consensus just delays it.

  • A framework nobody can explain in one breath won't survive contact with a Tuesday.

  • Certainty is a warning sign, not a milestone. Good thinking stays a little uncomfortable.

  • The room that argues well outperforms the room that agrees fast.

Who we work with

Three situations, not three titles.

We don't sort people by seniority. We sort them by the shape of the decision in front of them.

Founders at inflection points

The company has outgrown the plan that got it here, and every option in front of you looks defensible. We help you separate the one decision that matters from the ten that only feel urgent.

New executives

Hired for judgment nobody has watched you exercise yet. The first quarter is a test whether you know it or not — we help you pass it on your own terms, not your predecessor's.

Teams mid-pivot

The strategy changed faster than the org chart did. We help the people still doing the old job find the version of it that fits where the company is actually going.

Get in touch

Bring us the decision, not the deck.

If there's a real decision behind the request — a board vote, a hire, a pivot — we're interested. If it's a workshop for the sake of a workshop, we're not the right call.
